JLA President A Letter from the President...

Thank you for visiting the Junior League of Arlington (JLA) website!

The Junior League of Arlington has been serving our community since its beginnings as a Service League in 1975. In 1982, this organization was admitted to The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI); we are now partnered with 293 Leagues with over 160,000 members in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Great Britain. AJLI reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

Since its inception, JLA has given over $2,000,000 and 1,000,000 volunteer hours to more than 100 agencies in the community. This year we are pleased to provide funds in excess of $50,000 and/or volunteers to the following organizations: AIDS Outreach/Camp Firelight, Boys and Girls Club of Arlington, The University of Texas at Arlington’s Smart Hospital, All Star Equestrian, SafeHaven and Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County.

We are also proud to continue our Community Impact Project, a Back-to-School Fair, benefiting the children and families of the Arlington Independent School District. One thousand backpacks filled with new school supplies will be provided, as well as many free health-related services. Additionally, this will be the third year of our “Glass Slipper Boutique,” a program providing prom dresses to young women with a need.

Project funds are raised through two events, “Holiday Magic” and “Tee It Up For Charity”. 2010 marks the 28th year of “Holiday Magic,” a gift market coupled with a luncheon and parties, held annually in November at the Arlington Convention Center. The “Tee It Up For Charity” Golf Tournament is held in the Spring of each year – make plans to attend our 2011 tournament.

In 1993, JLA purchased The Center for Community Service. The Center provides meeting space at no cost to local 501(c)(3) organizations and government entities. Some of our frequent users include: Arlington Police Association, Trinity Valley Rail Fans, Boys and Girls Club, Immunization Outreach, Camp Firelight, SafeHaven, Navy Moms, AWARE Foundation, YMCA of Arlington and Tarrant County Housing Partners. The Center for Community Service’s secondary purpose is to serve as the JLA administrative office, as well as the offices for Meals on Wheels and Leadership Arlington all at no charge to either organization.

Please visit other pages on this website to learn more about the amazing work of the 400+ members of the Junior League of Arlington and how you can join, as well as support this wonderful organization.

Best,

Kimberly Phillips
